Origins of the drink
The espresso martini is thought to have originated in the 1980s, when bartender Dick Bradsell was working at Fred's Club in London. One night, a customer asked him to make a drink that would "wake me up and then f*ck me up." Bradsell took a shot of vodka, added some coffee liqueur and espresso, and topped it off with some ice. The result was the perfect pick-me-up for the late-night crowd.
